High Definition isn't fading away but Erie Viewers May!

NBC is now where CBS was 15 years ago. NBC is faced with increased costs due to both increased programming budgets and equipment acquisition. "Saturday Night Live" saw its budget slashed by Millions of Dollars for the new season.

Corporate parent GE has mandated across-the-board budget cuts. NBC is in a bleak situation. The peacock network hasn't been this desperate since the days of Fred Silverman and "SuperTrain!"

Finally, what does "High Definition isn't fading away but Erie viewers May!" mean? Time to let us in on your cryptology lesson.

Starbuck...

If you read my post from last week,"HD is for Lovers," you would know. But it is not hard to figure out. The programmres are introducing more and more HD channels because the viewer demands them. As more that demand is met and more HD sets are sold, the local stations will continue to loose market share because they can't currently satisfy that demand with old technology. With a HD receiver, given a choice between satellite or cable with upto 30 channels of HD currently and Standard definiton network channels. The viewer will pick which one looks more visually exciting. So no secret there.

I suggest you might switch to decaf.

I see you have Mark Guy Findlay on your team now. How interesting that he wrote a letter to the editor that sounded word-for-word like your BS. I'm surprised the newspaper published this letter. Look at it this way now there are two old bitter men who don't like the quality of local news in this town.

You, sir are a joke in this town!

I don't have a problem with the content in local news. I can still find out on three different stations that a car rammed a phone pole at 12th & State. Why see someone bleed to death in HD?

Might I suggest Golf?

You got the old right but change bitter to progressive rather than regressive as you suggest.

I don't expect local stations to go HD news although a lot of stations are doing just that. That conversion is slow and I wouldn't expect that for 5 years. Let's just get the HD the network sends and the stations butcher in their conversion.

Tirak, good for you in pushing HD in the Erie market. I moved from Erie to Detroit Metro in 2004 and have had the pleasure of experiencing HD since then. I can tell you that every time I turn on the tv to watch 'local' programming (the big networks) it's on a HD channel. I can't remember the last time I watched a local stations analog alternative.

Point being is that the picture and sound are incredible and television is more enjoyable to watch. In fact, I had a few of my Erie friends up for the SuperBowl this past January (we tailgated with some Steelers fans and returned home before the game started). Back home, we watched the game in HD and both of them commented on how great the picture and sound was. It made the game that more enjoyable (sports are great to watch in HD).

Hopefully Erie stations get on the ball soon rather than make up excuses as to why Erieites don't want/need HD. Give it to them and it will be a whole other story.

Liberal talk radio has failed in every market it has ever been introduced, just not in Erie. Why? It is just plain depressing. Too much whining, not enough substance. Who wants to listen about how bad life sucks and how the government is just looking to screw the little guy while you work 8 hours at a job you probably hate. At least conservative talk radio tends to focus on the positive and offer upbeat solutions and thoughts.

I am not sure I would ever say that any talk radio focused on the positive. Lately, the conservatives keep telling how bad everything was a decade ago and that is all they can say.

Anyway, it appears this station might be talk but not liberal or conversative.

Looks like NBC is going down the crapper! Another reason for Channel 12 not to go HD.

Let's hear it for "Heroes!"

Why don't you try and talk to the owners of the TV stations? Just go and ask to talk to them.

I am sure they love all your POSITIVE comments posted. You certainly are a fly on the wall, a burr in the fur. A Pain in the Neck!

Come on Jack! I'm sure you and your butt buddy M.G. Findlay can stir up a little more trouble.

DTV 4EVER
