The Big Man Goes Podcast!

Hold On Erie...He's Back!

For 17 years Bob Patrick (real name Bob Martin) was a familiar voice on Erie radio. Everything from weekends at WWGO-AM to middays at WWYN-AM, he was the voice of WLVU-FM, he brought a whole new format to WMDI-FM and finally, hosted the highest rated show (adults 25-54) middays on the original WLKK, "Great Lake Country". Everyday he brought his brand of casual humor and fun to his loyal audience. One morning in 1980, he decided that he had just run out of things to say and so he said goodbye to his on-air show and quietly joined the voiceless majority. Now, after 27 years, he’s stored up the stories and anecdotes and he’s coming back to let you know what he’s learned.

Inside The Mind of Bob Patrick is a daily (Monday through Friday) "podcast" designed to bring back fun to your day. This light-hearted 5-10 minute show will spotlight the positive things in life and especially why Erie, PA is the best place to live / visit in the US. What is won’t be is negative, downbeat or full of "frat house" humor. It’s time to bring back fun, clean radio. It’s time to feel good again!

When asked to describe the show, Bob Patrick replied, "It will be like you and I sitting at your kitchen table talking, having a cup of coffee and eating donuts... except, we’re really not in your kitchen, I don’t drink coffee, and let’s face it... neither one of us really need the donuts. Let’s just get together every day and share some fun."

The show will also feature interviews, contests and some surprises along the line.
The show will be produced by Martin Creative Consultants and will be downloadable as an MP3 file from

www.MartinCreativeConsultants.com or can be subscribed to at Apple iTunes. On-air date is Wednesday, January 3rd.

"Congress passed a law on February 1, 2006, setting a final deadline for the DTV transition of February 17, 2009. Most television stations will continue broadcasting both analog and digital programming until February 17, 2009, when all analog broadcasting will stop.. " FCC http://www.dtv.gov/"

EMGR New Look And Features Begin January 1st.

I remember Bob on WMDI...on Turkey Hill. He had a show called the "Funky Laundy"...or something like that. Back then MDI's signal didn't penetrate Erie too well and I remember going to Warren Radio to get an FM antenna just so I could get the station on the stereo in my bedroom. I loved MDI circa 1974-77. Free form radio at its best!

I don't remember Bob on WWGO either...but he may have been there briefly after they switched from Country to what was (at the time) the "flavor format of the month"...Mellow Music. We had a revolving door of air talent on that station at the time.

When WLKK signed on at 1260 as a Country station in response to WWGO's format change...if MY memory serves, Rich Peterson was the morning guy...mid-days might have been Dave Knapp...and afternoons was PD Pete Porter. I don't remember Bob there till a few years later. Oh and one of the part time weekend guys was radio sales ace and all around good guy (not to be confused with a WJET "Good Guy") Paul Wickles ("Wickles on the Weekend"). Oh and I should also mention that the now Mrs Kevin Cuneo did some air work under the name "Mary Richards."

I also remember that at first the music was from TM Century. Later on they ditched that and went with in-house music programming.

Legend also has it that the WLKK call letters...besides being an association with Lake Erie...also unofficially stood for "We Love Kathleen Kelly" (Don Kelly's daughter)

Remembering the old WWYN days from the early 70s. Jack Anderson did morning talk...Joy Greco did mid-days. Swap Shop. Bob Cannon did afternoons. Then there were periods when Billy Brabender did some talk there...mostly sports. Then along came John Speciale. Wayne Smith did news. These were all in the Art Arkelian days. When Don Kelly took over everything changed. Randy Michaels from JET came aboard, and yes, Mary "Richards" Cuneo was there later too. Wonder what ever happened to Bob Cannon? He did sports on Ch 35 about that time, when Oogie Pringle was doing the news and jockin' at WRIE. Ah...the good 'ol days.

For a few months I worked in the news department under Wayne Smith. I learned a LOT about concise and to the point writing from him. Wayne also occasionally filled in as a Contact host making for extremely entertaining radio.

And for what it's worth, Art Arkelian is stil in the biz...he sells for Connoisseur. Every now and then I hear from him when he needs a commercial e-mailed down there.

What is this Turkey Hill I keep seeing?

Turkey Hill...the name of the hill just west of Waterford where WMDI broadcast from. That building...like the station...is long gone

The WLKK lineup was Rich Peterson, Dave Knapp, Pete Porter and a can't-remember-his-name 7-midnight guy.

Boze started as weekend overnights (didn't everyone!) and moved to afternoons in 1979.

jimg, spot on regarding Wayne Smith; one of the best and least-recognized newspersons Erie has seen. His delivery was good, but his writing skills were outstanding.

And is the Bob Cannon people are wondering about the same guy who signed off using "Thank you your time this time until next time"? Great close!

Jack O'Brien...not Anderson. Sorry. Anderson was the old JET radio news guy who became a city cop...mayoral candidate...and a hawaiian ice vendor at the county fair.

Wayne Smith has owned and operated Natural Sound studios...just south of Wattsburg...for at least the past dozen or so years. His commercials are heard nationwide.

Jim G. is right

I had done several sessions with Wayne out there. He is a real study in what one person can do living in a rather remote area.
