Today the Federal Communications Commission approved a construction permit for a new FM station for Erie, Pennsylvania, 107.3.
The station was licensed to Starboard Media Foundation, Inc. and it has been transferred to Michael Celenza and Carlos Lopez.
The FCC records list the station as a translator. No other information is known at this time.
Can anyone inform us if this has been an existing CP or is new? I know I can't seem to tell.

Jack - Yes the station at 107.3 was an existing CP. It was to be a translator station for what would have been WQOH 92.7 LPFM out of Meadville. However that application from the Meadville Education Association was cancelled while the Erie translator application was approved, but in limbo. It should be interesting if it becomes a low powered station or stay as a translator. Speaking of LPFM stations, time is running out for WXNM 95.9. Their CP expires on December 23rd (unless it's extended, sound familiar?) I'm sure several local FM 96 listeners would like to see it cancelled due to it's spot on the dial at 95.9.

Now that just freakin' sucks! Erie doesn't have a decent radio station in town and now some ass wants to drown out FM96? My apologies to WERG. From what I've been picking up it sounds like some religious programming. Please, Goddess, tell me we don't need anymore of that format in NWPA!!! Can anyone tell me how to fight this?
Maybe the old guard could run the new 107.3. It could be a cousin to the the former WCCK. We could call it, ohhhh I dont know, maybe K107. Andy Pressman & Bill Shannon in the morning. JJ Sanford mid days. John Chipprean & Ken Olowin afternoons and Tammy Hagar evenings. Scott Stevens overnights. Classic rock & hits of the 80's & 90's, and some quality new rock. Kinda a mix of Z102.3 & Classy100. Rockin' the Northcoast K107....You Got It!
The three formats Erie does not need any more of: Country, Classic rock, and Christian.

Yes WXNM has signed on at 95.9 with another Christian format on the Erie airwaves. I could live with it at any frequency but 95.9 where FM 96 out of London is. You can listen to FM 96 online at www.fm96.com.
According to recnet, the 107.3 will be a translator for WNXM-LP. I am curious as to how well the new 95.9 signal gets out. Wonder how well WXNM will fare with FM 96 co-channel especially durring summer tropo?

Who owns/operates this WXNM. Is it a church or just a private citizen. Where do they originate from.
When listening to 95.9 in the car, WXNM was battling with the FM96. I had the signal somewhat until I was a couple miles north of Waterford. WXNM would be better off moving to another dial position like 107.3 or a few others that are vacant. It's low powered signal will have problems with FM96 aka CFPL FM.
I called up FM 96 and asked if any other people had complained about bad reception. It seems that are a few here, anyway. The worst part is, as the station is a Canadian broadcast, we aren't even supposed to be able to pick it up. So, in the Erie market, it's "open." Is there anything that can be done to stop this station from going on-air?

I think that it is great that you can pull in some great signals from across the border. I wouldn't say that you are not supposed to pick up Canadian signals over here in the states. In fact, the last Erie Arbitron numbers had FM96 and AM740 (CHWO) included. There are some good stations up north can add to the variety of the Erie market. Hopefully fans of FM96 will get their wish & have WXNM move elsewhere on the dial.
