Kudos to WJET-TV and WICU!

WJET once again had a very successful MD telethon. The station way back has made Jerry’s kids a special cause and that we can all be proud. I am especially sensitive to causes that focus on the disabled. As former president of the Achievement Center in Erie, I know the wonderful work that can be done. In the same token, WICU should also be congratulated again this year for its “Buy a Board” program to help those who need wheelchair ramps. In many ways, the clients and needs are similar.

This is how broadcasters make a difference in their communities.

Does WJET-TV24 get compensated in whole or part by MDA for their costs (expenses, loss of network comp for that period of time, etc.) in broadcasting the telethon, or is everything "donated" by Nexstar ?

Taking nothing away from Nexstar & their local operation --quite the opposite, in fact-- as they have indeed been involved with telecasting this program locally (as were previous owners Jones & Kanzius) for many years now, but rather just interested in full disclosure.

I can't be sure and I tried to google to find out. I may be mistaken, but I think the station is compensated for its out-of-pocket expenses...although I think never as much as it really is.

If some one has more info on if MD telethon stations are compensated, please post.
